A collaboration between Void and artist Are Mokkelbost.
Totem is an illuminated wall sculpture with moving components. It consists of five circular shapes placed vertically over a rectangular, diamond-shaped chassis. Inside, three light sources move along rails, after the sun has set.
The front of the wall sculpture is an off-white color similar to that of the wall, while the back of the circular shapes is either yellow or orange.
The movement of the white light inside the sculpture creates dynamic changes in luminance and color. The ways in which the circular shapes are cut and folded, and the perforation of the chassis, masks and manipulates the light within the sculpture and on the surrounding walls - causing blurred fields of indirect color and geometric patterns of light and shadow to appear.

Each light is faced in a different direction; left, center and right. They move in patterns controlled by sets of algorithms, resulting in simple but everchanging combinations in a clock-like manner.
The sculpture is a collaboration between artist Are Mokkelbost and Void, as well as Bolt Metall and Intek Engineering. It was made for Entra Eiendom and Universitetsgata 13.
The work evolved from studio experiments with paper models and small LED strips, via 3D-modeling with a programmed layer of adjustable variables, to production with fine-tuning of structural aspects and mechanical infrastructure, in close collaboration with the builders.
